This last Sunday we saw Blind Pilot. That sounds normal, but the live show that Blind Pilot puts on is nothing short of mesmerizing and magical. We have seen them three times in the last year, (once in Portland and now twice at the Belly Up in Solana Beach) so this time we decided to invite some friends. By the second song, they were just as enamored as we had expected. Long story short, they ended the encore with an acoustic performance in the front row of the audience, by far the most amazing thing I have ever been apart of.

Say what you will, but Temecula has it’s gems. E.A.T: Extraordinary Artisan Table is definitely something special. Its a farm-to-plate cafe that serves local and handcrafted entrees, sides and pastries that are good and good for you.

(Flat bread with mozzarella, mortadella, tomato and bacon w/a side salad)

Fresh ingredients, nice people, a menu that changes daily and the cozy, rustic decor make this place super unique.

Stop by, if you can, this place is open Tuesday-Friday from 8-3pm (took me a month to fit it in the schedule) but well worth it once you do.

It’s all about simple summer recipes right now. We recently made these bad boys as a throwback to Bagel Bites and other childhood memories. So easy to make and customize and in literally, 10 minutes:

1 pack of sour dough english muffins or bagels of choice

2 tomatoes, diced

4 cloves of garlic

1 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil

1 bag of shredded motzerella

pepperonis (or any of your favorite toppings)

basil (finely chopped)

salt & pepper

———————————————————————————————

preheat broiler

arrange english muffins on a cookie sheet

in a saucepan, sauté garlic and tomatoes in olive oil for 10-15 minutes

spoon a teaspoon of the mixture over each english muffin

sprinkle mozzarella over each, add additional toppings

bake in broiler for 3-5 min..enough for cheese to melt and muffins to brown

remove from broiler and sprinkle basil on top

BOOM.

Boots&Bowties…and a Puppy!

It’s been awhile but for good reason. May I introduce, Doggy - Salvador Doggy. Señor Doggy has been hard at work at 3 things: being adorable, sleeping and biting. He’s a kickin’ combo of Daschund, Beagle and possibly Boston Terrier. We saved him from Upward Dog Rescue.

Sleep has not been on our side, with all the peeps and the poops and the crates and all that other puppy raising stuff, but it’s well worth it. Good to be back. More to come.

Wine Hopping

Recently, we realized what’s the point of living down the street from wine country if we don’t go to every single winery. Therefore, we will do our best to capture and share our experiences as we drink them. We’ve also decided it’s a great place to take out of town guests..what better way to entertain but to wine and dine em’.

This week: Doffo

A tiny boutique winery that had a unique combination of Italian charm and vintage motorcycles that just seemed to work for them. An added bonus: A self guided tour that came with it’s own map and mandatory waiver. A must do after a satisfying tasting.

Juice & Bowties.

Our friends Angel and Lucy are in town from Portland. Hooray! So after a long day of wine tasting and galavanting it was only logical for our hipster foursome to watch a documentary. Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead is now officially on our recommended list. It’s much more positive than in sounds and actually, inspired a little juice fest of our own. A diet you’re sure to hear more about in the near future.

For my dad on Father’s Day

As I get older, I realize just how lucky I am. Thank you for all your hard work to make sure we always felt spoiled. Thank you for letting me make mistakes. Thank you for answering the phone whenever I called and thank you for the support whenever I felt lost.

Also, thank you for introducing me to good music.

You might not see him but he’s a big part of Boots&Bowties. He’s taking the pictures, he’s manning the grill, he’s recommending locations. He’s Dan Dan and he’s graduating - today! I don’t know anyone else who can sit in a room of people, drink a beer, listen to music, criticize our blog and study for a test all at the same time, as well as he can.

You’re not our red headed step child, you’re our friend and we’re so proud of you. Congrats!

Side note: We ask that you not use any plastic bags today to commemorate the occasion. It’ll mean a lot to him.

Just a reminder to those in the area: tomorrow is farmer’s market day in Old Town Temecula! A great place to get your fresh veggies for the week, flowers for the home or a delicious crepe for your Friday night hangover. It’s also just a great place to spend the morning and pick up some local goods. Definitely worth waking up early for - highly recommend!

Got puppies on the brain. It’s definitely a huge commitment and responsibility and one we are not taking lightly. So just for pups and giggles, we are frequenting pet adoption sites and animal shelters in our spare time. The other day, we met a quartet of mixed basset hound puppies and well….
